House approves $2.2T COVID-19 relief bill as White House talks stall

House Democrats on Thursday approved a massive, $2.2 trillion package of coronavirus relief, lending political cover to party centrists in tough races while putting fresh pressure on Senate Republicans to move another round of emergency aid before the coming elections.

The tally was 214 to 207, with at least 17 Democrats opposing the measure, including a surprisingly large number of centrists who were furious that Pelosi had staged a vote on a bill with no chance of becoming law.

Every Republican voted no, saying the spending levels were too high and the funding targeted certain programs unrelated to the coronavirus crisis.

The legislation has no chance of becoming law for the time being.

Republicans in the Senate and White House both oppose the measure and are backing a proposal that is $600 billion less than the Democratic legislation.

A man accused of peering under a bathroom stall at a 15-year-girl was chased down and tackled by angry parents at a Cracker Barrel restaurant in South Carolina.

Duncan police Chief Carl Long told local media that police have arrested Douglas Lane, 53, from neighboring North Carolina, after the girl allegedly spotted him looking underneath into her stall, according to WYFF.

Parents who were in Duncan for a girls softball tournament chased Lane down and tackled him, leaving his face battered and bloodied. The parents then held him until police arrived, Long said.

Long said Lane was charged with voyeurism, simple possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

One witness told the local news outlet that he was in the Cracker Barrel when he heard a disturbance that he believed may have been a fight. At one point, he told WYFF, he heard someone say, “Get him, he’s getting away!”

The witness said he and his son were near the doorway when they saw a man run by bleeding heavily from the nose.

He added that he watched as someone else tackled Lane in the parking lot a few short moments later, then watched with his son as other people struck the suspect.

At that, the witness passed his son off to his wife and then ventured outside to take a video of the confrontation. Police arrived on the scene shortly afterward, he said.

The witness said his son asked many questions about what had taken place and he responded by telling the boy “there was a bad guy and a lot of good guys took down the bad guy.”

On Monday during a court hearing, Lane told authorities he did not realize he was in a woman’s bathroom until after he sat down. But, according to court records, the victim said when she entered her stall and sat down, she saw Lane’s face as he peered up at her.

Following testimony, the court ruled that Lane will be required to remain in South Carolina awaiting further appearances. He was ordered to remain confined to quarters and to wear a GPS monitoring device ahead of a scheduled November court date.

Lane is a registered sex offender in North Carolina, according to the state Bureau of Investigations, which indicated that he has been registered since 2008. Prior to that, he was convicted in 2004 of secretly peering into an occupied room in Mecklenburg County, N.C., according to records which said the victims in that incident were just eight- and nine-year-old children.

Also, records from 2008 indicate Lane was convicted of peering into an occupied room in the same county, though the victim in that case was 18 years old or older.

Meanwhile, the South Carolina sex offender registry shows that Lane was convicted in two earlier instances of peeping, voyeurism, or aggravated voyeurism — once in 1997 and again in 1999 for

Bathroom Remodeling – How to Install a Standing Shower Stall

Achieving a successful installation when it comes to a shower stall is not as difficult as you may think. Given your ability to follow instructions and a reasonable amount of construction knowledge it can be quite rewarding in the end. With quality renovation professionals becoming more and more illusive and the investment at times exceeding your budgeted amount DIY is on the rise.

First you will need to temporarily shut off the water to the shower unit, don't worry once the plumbing is capped off you can turn it back on. Now remove the shower stall as it is now. Depending on whether or not you have fiberglass unit, cast iron tub, or existing tile stall your demo method will differ.

Now that demo is complete determine where you want your new shower valves and fixtures to go, and rough these now. Most of the time when a tub has been removed you will need to install the drain to the center of your new stall opening, Also common today are shower niches or soap dishes, placement and framing of these along with any type "knee or pony walls "is done now as well,

Pre-sloping of the slab with a form-able mud material will be installed now. Marking on the slab or sub-floor the final depth of the new shower stall will give you a stopping point for your pre-slope. ext install the shower pan liner attaching it to the drain and running it up the wall above the height of your seat or around 20 inches. Next form your curb that the shower door will set on to a desirable height, usually 5 inches, with a 2×6 pulling the pan up between the form boards and pouring on each side with concrete encapsulating the pan.

Installation of duroc material or a concrete based backer board and mesh taping the joints will be done now. Once this is done use a waterproof paint or membrane and cover the entire shower stall except the floor. When dry packing the floor on top of the shower pan is very important to keep at least 1/4 inch per 3 foot fall to the drain this will ensure the water will drain properly.

After completing this step you are now ready to begin the installation of your shower floor tile material. Once this is dry the wall tile installation can begin. After the tile installation is completed you will need to clean all the tile and grout lines before grouting begins.

Finally install your new shower fixtures and shower door to begin reaping the benefits of your hard labor ..
