Honda’s remastered its Ridgeline pickup for 2021, with new looks and interior

Honda is hoping third time’s the charm for its fledgling pickup, the Ridgeline. For the 2021 model year, it earns new truck-like duds to accompany its innovative bed and slew of interior upgrades.

Chief among the changes is a front end and profile that may actually earn a bit of respect from fellow truck owners.

Ridgeline has had a lot of sand kicked in its face over the years (and your author has admittedly done his fair share of the kicking) from shoppers who felt the vehicle’s appearance had far too much in common with the Pilot SUV and, worse, the Odyssey minivan. Oh, the horror.

The 2021 Ridgeline features all-new sheet metal fore of the A-pillars. Design changes include a new hood sporting a pronounced power bulge (insert crude jokes here) and new front fenders that emphasize the squared-off nose and upright grille. That maw is bookended by LED headlights and sits atop broad side vents that route air through the bumper for aerodynamic purposes.

A unique tire-and-wheel set also amp up the visual bellicosity, increasing track width by 20 mm and giving the thing a broader stance. Honda says some of the available rubber options have a more aggressive sidewall and tread shoulder appearance but these all-seasons are still light years away from the likes of a BFGoodrich KO2 or Firestone Destination M/T.

There are a smattering of improvements inside, ranging from an updated infotainment system with new graphics to new cloth seat inserts. The company is also careful to make special mention of a physical volume knob (thank you) plus a variety of new gauges and console accents.

Under the hood is a familiar 3.5L V6 making 280 hp and 262 lb.-ft of torque ashed to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive system can send up to 70 per cent of the engine’s torque to Ridgeline’s rear wheels. There are selectable drive modes for snow, mud, and sand. Towing capacity tops out at 5,000 lbs.

The latter underscores some of the sand-kicking, since other mid-size trucks like the Toyota Tacoma and Chevrolet Colorado can tow maximums of 6,800 lbs and 7,700 lbs, respectively. A new mug never hurts, and Honda’s reputation for build quality is stellar, so we’re confident the 2021 Ridgeline will continue to finds its share of customers.

Driver Of Stolen Pickup Truck In Boston Public Garden Crash Arrested

BOSTON (CBS) – A homeless man has been charged in a horrific pickup truck crash at the entrance to the Boston Public Garden that left a woman critically hurt. Keith Andrade, 58  was ordered held on $20,000 bail at his arraignment in municipal court Friday afternoon.

According to WBZ-TV I-Team sources, a firefighter left the truck running outside the Boylston Street fire station Thursday afternoon when a man stole it and took off. A short time later, it crashed through the garden gate at the corner of Boylston and Charles Street South.

A woman who had been walking on the sidewalk was pinned under the debris. A nurse and a doctor rushed to help her before she was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

“She grabbed the victim’s hand in an attempt to pull her out of the way.  She tripped on her high heel and was consequently unable to get out of the way to avoid being struck,” said prosecutor Colleen O’Neill.

According to the police report, she was entering the garden with a friend when they heard a “loud sound” and saw a pickup truck coming at them at a “rapid rate of speed.” The woman tripped on a high heel and couldn’t get out of the way before she was hit.

Witnesses said the driver, later identified by police as Andrade, simply walked away.

About four hours later, police said they found the man who fit the description of the driver at Washington Street and School Street. When officers approached him they said he gave them another name. Police discovered he had two active warrants for larceny and arrested him.

Andrade is facing several charges including larceny of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and leaving the scene of an accident.

In court Friday, Andrade’s attorney said his client has been misidentified.

Man charged with crashing stolen pickup truck into Public Garden fence, seriously injuring pedestrian

A Boston man was charged with stealing a pickup truck in downtown Boston Thursday and then seriously injuring a woman when he crashed the vehicle into a fence at the Public Garden, Boston police said Friday.

Keith M. Andrade,58, is to be arraigned Friday in Boston Municipal Court on charges including larceny of a motor vehicle, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in personal injury, police said.

The woman, whose name was not released, suffered life-threatening injuries. She was walking near the intersection of Boylston and Charles streets when she was hit around 4:23 p.m. by the dark-colored pickup truck, police wrote in a posting on

“Witnesses on scene provided a description of the [driver] who was observed fleeing the scene by casually walking across Charles Street attempting to blend in with the crowd,” police wrote, but officers were not able to locate him despite searching the Beacon Hill neighborhood.

Later Thursday night, officers spotted a man who matched the description of the driver walking near Washington and School streets in downtown and started to have a conversation with him, police wrote.

The man “identified himself and officers immediately discovered he had provided an alias,” police wrote.

The man was eventually identified as Andrade,who was being sought on two active arrest warrants. Police determined Andrade was the alleged driver and formally arrested him, police said.

Andrade also faces two pending charges of larceny from a person.

Photos from the scene showed the Chevy Colorado pickup truck on the sidewalk at the entrance to the garden with severe front end damage. It appeared that several granite stone fixtures were knocked down.

Boston Police said the pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries. A witness said the victim was pinned beneath the vehicle.

No additional information was immediately available.

Workhorse surges 16% after President Trump views Lordstown’s EV pickup Endurance at the White House

President Donald Trump’s viewing of the 2021 Endurance electric pick-up truck produced by Lordstown Motors spurred a 16% jump in shares of Workhorse.

Workhorse owns a 10% equity stake in Lordstown, which was spun off as its own independent company from Workhorse in 2019.

Eamon Javers of CNBC tweeted on Monday, “Now pool reporters have been brought out to the South Lawn, where they send this report: ‘The president was already on the South Lawn when we arrived. He is looking at a Lordstown Motors 2021 endurance truck.” The White House subsequently published remarks and video of the company’s visit.

Lordstown is targeting a 2021 launch of the Endurance pick-up truck, and is planning to go public with a SPAC later this year.

Trump shows off Lordstown Motors pickup truck at White House on the eve of Cleveland presidential debate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The day before traveling to Cleveland for his first presidential debate with Democratic nominee Joe Biden, President Donald Trump inspected the new “Endurance” electric pickup truck from Ohio’s Lordstown Motors outside the White House, claiming success for boosting the region’s economy after General Motors shuttered its plant that made the Chevrolet Cruze.

“We’ve been working on this very long and very hard,” Trump said on the White House South Lawn, where he examined the vehicle with Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman, Dayton Republican Rep. Mike Turner and Trump’s manufacturing policy chief, Peter Navarro. “This is a really unique thing because the four wheels are — hub motor, hub motor — this is the only one that does this in the world. It has a lot of advantages.

“The area was devastated when General Motors moved out,” Trump continued. “Beyond the plant, it’s incredible what’s happened in the area. It’s booming now. It’s absolutely booming. … It’s an incredible piece of science, technology. It’s going to happen now with more and more trucks. And ultimately they say you’ll be able to do it for less money, and it’s better, which is a good combination.”

Portman described General Motors decision to stop producing the Cruze in Lordstown as a “gut-punch” to the Mahoning Valley, a key battleground in November’s presidential election, where Trump and Biden are both aggressively courting voters. He said Trump and his administration have been “very helpful in this effort to bring the jobs to the Mahoning Valley.”

Portman said that in addition to Lordstown Motors producing its truck on the premises of the old GM plant, GM and LG Chem have placed a new joint venture there to make electric vehicle batteries that will hire 1,100 people this year. He said the combination of the two plants will replace roughly the same amount of workers lost from closure of the larger GM plant.

Lordstown Motors CEO Steve Burns said the plant hopes to produce more than 100,000 of the trucks each year “once we get going,” and intends to come out with multiple models.

In a call with reporters after Trump’s White House event, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown disputed claims that Trump helped bring jobs to the region after the General Motors closure. He accused Trump of abandoning workers at Lordstown and not lifting “a finger to bring those jobs back” after telling workers in the area in 2016 not to sell their homes because he’d improve their economic fortunes if he became president.

Brown said that he himself worked to get Lordstown Motors and the battery plant into Ohio and got “little help from the White House.” He said the jobs from those new employers won’t come close to equalling what the GM plant and all the feeder plants that were part of the whole GM supply chain in the Mahoning Valley” added.

Lordstown shows off the interior of its Endurance electric pickup

Lordstown teased the interior of its upcoming Endurance pickup truck for the first time late September, and has confirmed it’s got 40,000 orders for the new truck.

The truck was unveiled in June, but the inside wasn’t shown off then.

The interior is clean but spartan, as you would expect in a fleet truck. Lordstown is aiming its vehicle sales mostly at companies that will buy a tonne at once, which means luxury and accessories come secondary to functionality, a mantra carried through the interior.

Replacing standard dials and switches is a horizontal screen that stretches over two-thirds of the dashboard’s width. From there you get all the information you need, including speed, range, and infotainment. There are a few analog dials near the centre console, presumably for the climate control, and a “gear” selector.

The vehicle will have a battery range of 250 miles (400 km) and offer 600 horsepower, thanks to its four hub-mounted motors.

The Endurance will have a lot of competition by the time deliveries start in late 2021. New companies such as Rivian and Bollinger are also getting ready to sell their EV trucks, while the big boys at Ford and Tesla should hit that same market in that time-frame, too. Where the Endurance will hopefully set itself apart is in its price, specifically since it’s being built for fleet use rather than strictly street use.

Lordstown Endurance Electric Pickup Interior Revealed

Lordstown Motors has just released some photos showing off the interior of its all-electric pickup truck, the Endurance (see gallery below). We had previously shared computer renderings of the inside of the cabin, and while those images were pretty accurate, there’s nothing like the real thing.

Like so many new vehicles, the screen is the main attraction here. We don’t have any numbers regarding its size or resolution, but it certainly looks suited to its mission of being a work-a-day vehicle for mainly commercial customers. All the info one needs for driving is right behind the steering wheel. Meanwhile, infotainment is located in front of the center console, where driver or passenger can reach and the various features and settings there.

It’s not a luxury interior – there is no rich Corinthian leather or stylistic baubles to enthuse about. There are, though, cupholders and a few knobs to adjust climate and other features. The gear selector appears to be a nice chunky dial placed forward on the armrest. 

Besides these interior shots, Lordstown also shared its current pre-order totals. When it originally launched this past June, only 14,000 had been spoken for. The company, however, may have stumbled across just the right segment to begin its automotive journey, since electric pickup trucks are the new black. Now, just three months later, that number has reached 40,000.

That 40,000 is nowhere near the 600,000 or so pre-orders for the Tesla Cybertruck, but we have to point out that the Cybertruck is a Tesla and, as such, draws upon the automaker’s experience in the industry, whereas Lordstown is a new startup.

If you’ve ever thought about starting an indoor garden, there’s no time like the pandemic — er, present.

For those of us spending more time at home than usual lately, plants offer more benefits than just beautifying your space.

Studies have found that indoor plants can reduce stress and improve your mood and productivity — a nice perk if you’re still working from home. Some houseplants like pothos and snake plants can even remove toxins and purify the air in your home, according to a NASA study.

Pueblo, located in the Historic Garfield District, has been “Downtown Phoenix’s plant shop” since 2015. They sell a variety of plants, candles, pottery and more.

If you see a plant you like on their Instagram page, you can call to purchase it and schedule a pick-up. Their Instagram also features pots and planters for sale, store updates and the occasional picture of Ben, the shop’s cutest (and furriest) employee. 

Pueblo recently opened a second location in Venice, California, with plans to expand the Phoenix shop too, according to a recent Instagram post.

Talus Expedition Gear’s CampPack and VenturePack for pickup trucks

Talus Expedition Gear created a camper van in a box that can be mounted on the bed of a daily driver pickup truck, such as a Ford F-150 or Toyota Tacoma.

The outdoor gear company was created after its two founding brothers, Dan and Will Sunderland, both broke their talus bones, prompting the pair to create outdoor products that could be used despite their injuries.

“We wanted to take the limitations we felt with our injuries and turn it into a new opportunity,” Will Sunderland said in a statement. “It only made sense to use the dual meaning of the word ‘talus’ as the company name—taking our broken bones and pointing toward the mountain slopes we want to reach.”

Boise, Idaho-based Talus Expedition Gear is currently offering two iterations of its lightweight but durable aluminum camper box: the $11,900 CampPack, and the $13,750 VenturePack.

Both products include the “kitchen and storage in a box” idea with propane-powered dual burner stovetops, a refrigerator, storage drawers, and a 16-gallon water tank that supplies the sink.

The main difference between the two offerings — and the explanation for its wide price difference — lies in the stronger power capabilities of the VenturePack, which, unlike the CampPack, can be charged with solar.
