Jaguar unveils updated XF saloon with improved interior

JAGUAR has revealed a facelifted version of the XF executive saloon and sportbrake, in a bid to make its BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-class rival more alluring.

The British car maker has specifically focused on the interior, an area of the car which has often been seen as falling short when compared to its competitors. The “tactile and luxurious” cabin, shared with the F-Pace, has been razed of all cheap-seeming materials, instead opting for wood veneer and aluminium finishes, as well as a “piano lid” that encompasses the width of the dashboard.

Seats, meanwhile, have gained wider cushioning, as well as enhanced coverage of heated and cooled areas and optional massage functions. Practicality has also been improved, with more space for storage in the door pockets, and easier access thanks to a 360-degree grab handle.

There’s also an optional addition to the XF’s interior in the form of a “purify” button that ionises the air in the car, and PM2.5 air filters that stop the entry of some unwanted particles into the car. Other optional additions include a wireless phone charger with an inbuilt signal booster.

A new infotainment system, also found in the new Land Rover Defender, is controlled through a touchscreen which Jag claims has better clarity than the outgoing one, as well as being three times brighter and nearly 50% bigger, at 11.4in. Nine out of 10 common tasks can be completed through the system in two taps or fewer, the car maker says.

The driver display is also more sophisticated than in the outgoing model, taking the form of an interactive 12.3in screen with better graphics and a configurable layout. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility both come as standard.

To make the XF extra quiet so that the executive target audience can better focus on their business discussions, Jaguar has introduced Active Road Noise Cancellation technology to the XF, which it claims is a first for the segment. This records the exact frequency of the road noise so that it can produce the opposite sound wave, which in theory results in silence, like adding acid to alkaline to create a neutral PH.

A quality-over-quantity approach has also been applied to the XF range, with the number of the derivatives slashed from 64 to 28, “a move that both reduces manufacturing complexity and retains the most popular features selected by customers”.

There are now three powertrains: two petrol four-cylinders, with 247bhp or 296bhp, and a diesel mild hybrid setup that puts out 201bhp. The latter offers 24bhp more than the diesel unit it replaces, while reducing emissions by 13%.

The range topping petrol XF, which is only available with four-wheel drive, can sprint from 0-62mph in 5.8 seconds.

On the exterior, only mild changes have been made, including a wider front grille and larger air intakes, and new superslim headlights have been added.

While the XF has been made more luxurious, it will cost less than the outgoing model. Prices begin at £32,585, around £2,500

The Jaguar XF has been updated for 2021, receiving a refined look on the outside plus some much-needed updates inside.

The updates constitute a mid-cycle refresh for Jaguar’s svelte mid-size sedan, which we’ll see in showrooms later this year.

You’d have to be a Jaguar die-hard to recognize the changes on the outside. The sheet metal is mostly the same while the headlights are slimmer and the taillights are fitted with new internals. The grille also features a new mesh pattern and buyers have the option of a styling pack that adds black accents on items like the grille, side vents, and window surround, among others.

The big news is what’s happening inside. The cabin has been brought up to date with a curved 11.4-inch display replacing the small in-dash display of the current XF. The large screen serves as the main hub for an overhauled infotainment system Jaguar calls Pivi Pro.

According to the automaker, the infotainment system is simpler to use, with many frequently used functions now accessible in just two taps or less. The system also integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Over-the-air updates are also supported, and a surround-view camera is standard.

You’ll also spot more digital controls below the infotainment screen for the comfort settings, and the instrument cluster is also a large digital unit now. The old rotary dial gear selector has also been replaced by a more conventional shift lever. Similar changes feature in an updated 2021 F-Pace.

In the powertrain department, buyers in the United States have just two options to choose from, both of them 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4s. The base powertrain delivers 246 horsepower and is available with rear- or all-wheel drive. The more powerful unit delivers up 296 hp and comes with all-wheel drive only. An 8-speed automatic is standard across the range.

Buyers can look forward to 0-60 mph acceleration in 6.5 seconds with the 246-hp output and 5.8 seconds with the 296-hp output. A more potent option in the form of a turbocharged inline-6 could be added at a later date.

Pricing information for the 2021 XF will be announced closer to the market launch. The updated 2021 XF Sportback will also be revealed at a later date.

Jaguar gives its midsize luxury sedan a mid-cycle update for the 2021 model year. The second-generation XF, internally coded X260, was revealed in 2015 so it’s high time that the British marque put it under the knife to make it more attractive to the executive sedan market.

The 2021 Jaguar XF gets minute changes on the outside, so you’ll be hard-pressed to find them unless you own one or you’re a fan. The panels are largely the same – the LED quad headlights are a tad slimmer plus the grille gets “diamond detailing” with a chrome finish.

If chrome isn’t your cup of tea, Jaguar throws in a Black Exterior Pack for the 2021 XF that replaces all shiny things with noir. The bevy of updates is rounded out by a new set of 19-inch five-spoke wheels in silver or glossy black, or a set of 20-inchers in satin or glossy black.

While the updates on the outside are marginal, the cabin gets the heft of improvement for the 2021 model year. The outgoing XF’s small infotainment gets replaced by a curved 11.4-inch high-definition touchscreen. A new Pivi Pro infotainment system supplements the massive screen, promising intuitive usage and simplified structure. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as over-the-air updates and surround-view cameras.

Other 2021 XF updates include a new fully-digital instrument cluster and a convention gear lever replacing the rotary knob of the outgoing model – similar to the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace updates.

The Refreshed XF Sportbrake Is Coming:

Buyers of the 2021 Jaguar XF will have two engines and powertrain options to choose from upon its arrival in showrooms by the end of this year. These choices include a rear-wheel-drive, 246-horsepower (183 kilowatts), 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder; and an all-wheel-drive 296-hp (221 kW), 2.0-liter turbo four-banger. These mills allow the executive sedan to bold from 0-60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 6.5 seconds and 5.8 seconds, respectively.

Just like the F-Pace, the 2021 Jaguar XF luxury sedan is getting a light refresh for the new model year. Unlike the F-Pace, the XF’s new features are mostly limited to interior and exterior design. And it also loses an engine and body style option.

From the outside, not much has changed with the XF. It has a fresh grille, new LED headlights and taillights, and fender vents with the “Leaper,” the Jaguar cat logo. It’s inside where things have really changed. A completely new dashboard design has been added, which looks a lot like the F-Pace’s. It has a full-width air vent motif at the top, and below it are panels with nice stitching and either open-pore or aluminum trim.

The focal point is the new 11.4-inch infotainment system screen made of glass with a magnesium frame. Powering it is the latest Pivi operating system with the capability for over-the-air updates. Jaguar has also added a number of standard features. Those features include keyless entry, wireless phone charging, active noise cancellation, surround-view camera and 12-speaker Meridian sound system.

While some new features have been added, Jaguar has also removed some options. The XF is now only available with four-cylinder engines, as the supercharged V6 has been discontinued with no direct successor. The base engine is the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. It’s available with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A version of this engine making 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque is optional, and it comes only with all-wheel drive. Additionally (or would it be subtraction-ally?), Jaguar has reportedly discontinued the Jaguar XF Sportbrake station wagon model according to Roadshow. We’ve reached out to Jaguar to confirm. This would be the reverse of the trend of luxury automakers to offer fairly sizable wagons such as the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Volvo V90 and Audi A6.

We don’t have a specific target on-sale date, but we would expect the XF to go on sale in just a few months. It should also be priced similarly to the current XF, which starts at $52,250.

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace aims to improve on the shortcomings of the outgoing model. Jaguar designers took the ‘don’t fix what ain’t broke’ approach in reconfiguring the exterior of its newest F-Pace sport-luxury SUV, but the biggest changes are found inside with new tech gadgets and better interior materials.

“The new F-PACE is dynamic and assertive with an elegant stance on the road – it represents a significant development of Jaguar design language,” said Julian Thomson, Jaguar Design Director. “The heightened luxury and attention to detail inside the F-PACE with seamlessly integrated state-of-the-art technologies ensure both driver and passengers feel a real sense of occasion whenever they get in the vehicle.”

With that, let’s focus on the cabin before discussing the numerous, albeit subtle exterior changes. The Jaguar F-Pace was never lacking in power and driving emotion. It remains a pleasant-handling SUV with the agility and athleticism of Jaguar’s F-Type, and that’s high praise for what is seemingly a practical yet luxurious family SUV. But for all its inherent sportiness, the F-Pace’s biggest drawback is its lackluster interior, and Jaguar is addressing this from the roots for the 2022 F-Pace.

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace debuts an elegant 11.4-inch curved touchscreen display. It not only looks better than the outdated 10.0-inch unit of the old F-Pace, but it now has a user-friendlier interface with intuitive menus and faster response times. The driver also receives a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster running Jaguar’s latest Pivi Pro software.

Meanwhile, the 2021 F-Pace has a new three-spoke steering wheel with touch-capacitive buttons, which we reckon is lifted directly from the I-Pace electric car. Whereas the outgoing F-Pace had a rotary shifter that rises when the engine comes to life, the 2022 F-Pace now has a conventional shift knob. Also new is 10-color ambient lighting, standard keyless entry, and a Meridian audio system with 14 speakers. The interior is also home to better soft-touch materials and open-pore wood veneers to deliver a posher vibe.

On the outside, the new Jaguar F-Pace has a larger grille, a new hood with cleaner lines, slimmer LED headlights with new signature J-shaped daytime running lamps, and new taillights. The new F-Pace is available in four trim levels powered by a slew of new powertrains. The F-Pace 250 and 250 S has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 246 horsepower. The F-Pace S 340 has a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six motor with a mild-hybrid assist system, good for 335 horsepower.

Lastly, the F-Pace R-Dynamic S 400 has a 395-horsepower version of the inline-six engine. All-wheel-drive is standard across the board as well as an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace will go on sale later this year. Pricing will be announced soon.

Jaguar F-Pace update brings 398bhp hybrid and all-new interior

Jaguar has updated its F-Pace, adding hybrid drivetrains, new looks and new technology to its popular large SUV.

Among the major changes for the 2021 model year is the addition of mild hybrid technology to all diesel variants along with the introduction of a high-performance plug-in hybrid petrol.

Two four-cylinder diesels with mild hybrid systems mark the entry point of the range with 161bhp or 201bhp. Above them is a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel with 297bhp. The 161bhp diesel will return up to 45.4mpg, with CO2 emissions from 163g/km.

An entry-level 2.0-litre four-cylinder kicks off the petrol range with 248bhp, while a mild hybrid 3.0-litre offers 395bhp.

All the mild hybrids use a 48V integrated starter generator to provide a torque boost and harvest energy from braking.

At the top of the range sits an all-new plug-in hybrid petrol. The P400e uses a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a 105kW electric motor and 17.1kWh battery to produce 398bhp and offer an all-electric driving range of up to 33 miles. Official figures put the F-Pace PHEV’s economy at 130mpg, with emissions as low as 49g/km while it will hit 60mph in just five seconds.

All versions of the F-Pace come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

As is standard with midlife facelifts the external updates are subtle but serve to keep the F-Pace looking fresh. At the front of the car a new bonnet with a power bulge, slimline quad headlights and an enlarged grille emphasis Jaguar’s design direction, while a reshaped bumper aims to give the F-Pace a more “assured dynamic presence”.

All models now come with LED headlights, and auto-dimming or Pixel adaptive LED systems are available on higher-spec versions. At the rear, new slimline lights feature the double chicane graphic first seen on the I-Pace and the tailgate features a more sculpted line, leading to a reshaped bumper for added visual drama.

Larger changes have taken place inside, with the F-Pace getting an all-new interior that aims to focus more on the driver. At the centre of the redesigned cabin is an 11.4-inch curved touchscreen housing the new Pivo Pro infotainment system, from which a reshaped centre console and dashboard extend. The pistol-grip gear selector has been replaced with a squarer metal and leather drive selector with “cricket ball” stitching, while the doors, storage areas and switchgear have been reconfigured to improve ease of use.

New seats feature wider cushioning, new massage functions and larger heated and cooled areas and there is an enhanced air purification system for those worried about pollution getting into the cabin.
