The Block stars Jimmy and Tam defend decision to spend $5000 on high-end WINE during kitchen week

The Block stars Jimmy and Tam defend decision to spend $5000 on high-end WINE during kitchen week

The Block’s Jimmy and Tam spent a whopping $5000 on high-end wine to hopefully tempt prospective buyers come auction day.

On Wednesday’s episode, bar manager Tam, 31, shocked foreman Dan by announcing that she’d splashed the large amount of cash on the luxury booze.

Speaking to 9Entertainment, Tam explained why the wine will only add further value to their $200,000 kitchen.

Judge Shaynna Blake initially suggested Tam invest in a rare art piece for their house as a ‘game changer’ for auction day, but Tam instead spent $5000 on rare wines for their state-of-the-art bar fridge.

‘I knew we had this amazing Gaggenau wine fridge and I wanted something that was pretty high end to go in the fridge to meet the standards,’ she said.

‘The wine that has been selected, it’s actually from the most prestigious real estate areas around the world,’ explained Tam, adding: ‘Anyone who knows wine, when they see what’s in the wine selection, they’re blown away.’

Tam claims the wine is both a luxury good and an investment for whoever decided to purchase the finished Block property at auction.

She believes the curated wine that was purchased during filming will appreciate by 10 per cent each year.

There are 55 bottles of wine in the collection, with the most expensive in the assortment being a $278 Massolino Barolo MAGNUM 2015.

‘It’s [the bar fridge] actually got three different sections in it. There’s a white wine, a red wine and a champagne. So each section can run at different temperatures and the temperature is perfect for that sort of wine, which is next level,’ said Tam.

2021 Volkswagen ID4 Interior Review: High-Tech, not High-End

Volkswagen just officially pulled the silk off of the 2021 ID4, the latest member of an all-electric lineup of cars and SUVs. VW says the new SUV, the name for which it stylizes as “ID.4,” is the company’s first long-range EV for the United States—the e-Golf was merely a baby step toward electrification.  Also unlike the e-Golf, the ID4 will be the first chance U.S. customers will have to experience an entirely new exterior and interior design language from the German automaker. (Europe got a head start with the ID3 hatchback, which won’t be coming here.) If you want all the specs on the ID4, including range and charging info, you can check out our 2021 Volkswagen ID4 First Look here. But earlier this week, MotorTrend got an in-person preview of the ID4 in the metal, and it both impresses and leaves some things to be desired.

2021 Volkswagen ID4 55

Inside, the design is fresh for VW, if a little Spartan. The ID4 isn’t a concept—we were shown a preproduction model—but it has the minimalist styling inside you’d expect of a concept car flexing a little design muscle. At first glance, it seems too minimal—”hmm, that’s it?”—but what you do get is a step in the right direction for a car that is essentially paving the way for VW’s electric future.

Volkswagen’s new infotainment system is more user-friendly than ever. Getting used to its smartphone-like user interface is a cinch. The upgraded 12.0-inch display is bright and slightly angled towards the driver to make it easier to see. It’s also snappier in most places than VW’s previous infotainment system, which could take a beat or two to register your inputs and respond accordingly.

The infotainment’s icons are easy to understand, user-friendly, and with a more intuitive menu structure for HVAC, navigation, and media controls. And while we’ll always prefer a conventional volume knob, the touch-sensitive volume slider is much more responsive than the ones maligned in past Hondas and Cadillacs. That’s good because everything is touch-sensitive. The controls for the exterior lights, cabin lighting, steering-wheel-mounted functions, and even the mirror-adjustment controls are touch-sensitive capacitive panels. That will certainly take more getting used to than the new infotainment software.

The instrument cluster, however, is a tiny digital display mounted on the steering column, so it moves as you tilt the steering wheel up and down. That seems fine on paper, but the amount of info VW tried to cram into a 5.3-inch screen makes it feel cluttered, and some of the info isn’t perfectly within the driver’s line of sight. It’s a noticeable change—and

Perelman Selling Almost Everything as Pandemic Roils His Empire

(Bloomberg) — Bit by bit, billionaire Ronald O. Perelman is parting with his treasures. His Gulfstream 650 is on the market. So is his 257-foot yacht. Movers hauled crates of art from his Upper East Side townhouse after he struck a deal with Sotheby’s to sell hundreds of millions of dollars of works. He’s unloaded his stake in Humvee-maker AM General, sold a flavorings company that he’d owned for decades and hired banks to find buyers for stock he holds in other companies. What in the world is going on with Ron Perelman? His exploits on and off Wall Street have been tabloid fare in New York since the go-go 1980s. But now, at an age when most fellow billionaires are kicking back, Perelman, 77, is facing a range of financial challenges, most of all at Revlon Inc., his cosmetics giant.Once touted as America’s richest man, his wealth has dropped from $19 billion to $4.2 billion in the past two years, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.Bankers, socialites and art collectors have been buzzing about Perelman since his investment company, MacAndrews & Forbes, said in July it would rework its holdings in response to the coronavirus pandemic and the ravages it caused to American businesses, including his own.“We quickly took significant steps to react to the unprecedented economic environment that we were facing,” Perelman said in a statement. “I have been very public about my intention to reduce leverage, streamline operations, sell some assets and convert those assets to cash in order to seek new investment opportunities and that is exactly what we are doing.”Read Ronald O. Perelman’s full statement herePerelman also gave more prosaic reasons for the shift, including spending time with his family during lockdown and a desire for a simpler life.“I realized that for far too long, I have been holding onto too many things that I don’t use or even want,” he said. “I concluded that it’s time for me to clean house, simplify and give others the chance to enjoy some of the beautiful things that I’ve acquired just as I have for decades.”Graydon Carter, the former editor of Vanity Fair who’s known Perelman for three decades, said the shift in Perelman’s attitude is sincere.“Often when people say this sort of thing, it’s masking something else. In Ronald’s case, it’s true,” said Carter, who partnered with Perelman to reopen the Monkey Bar in Midtown Manhattan. “He has learned to love and appreciate the bourgeois comforts of family and home.”Carter described Perelman as a “charismatic swashbuckler” who once enjoyed evenings on the New York social circle a little too much. But he said Perelman is now “crazy about spending time at home” with his fifth wife Anna, a psychiatrist, and their two young sons.Richard Hack, who wrote a 1996 unauthorized biography of Perelman, is skeptical.“If you want a simpler life, you go buy a farm in Oklahoma, not sell a painting out of your townhouse in Manhattan,” Hack said.
