Four people and a family dog are dead and two others injured after a fire erupted at a home in De Soto, Missouri, this weekend.

The blaze started around 2 a.m. on Sunday and claimed the lives of Joe Detter, 76, and his wife, 74-year-old Frances Detter, according to KMOV.

The couple’s daughter, 37-year-old Sherri Detter, was also killed, along with their 18-year-old granddaughter, Kari Detter.

The two survivors were Kari and Sherri’s boyfriends, the outlet said. The two men escaped the burning home by hopping out of second-story windows, family members told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. One of them remains hospitalized.

Joe was remembered as a “great friend” by the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce.

“We are so saddened and at a loss of words to hear of the loss of Joe Detter, his wife and granddaughter,” they said in a statement to KMOV. “He has been an employee of the City of Hillsboro for many years as the building inspector.”

“He was a great friend to many and will be missed terribly,” they added. “Our condolences and hearts go out to the Detter family.”

Joe and Frances’ son, James Detter, told the Post-Dispatch that his father was known around the area for being friendly and willing to assist anyone in need.

“He helped everybody. There isn’t a person in this town he hasn’t done something for,” James — who is one of the couple’s seven children — told the outlet.

“He is going to be missed by everyone,” he continued. “He is going to missed everywhere.”

Kari’s boyfriend told James he was asleep on the second floor of the house when the fire broke out, and woke up to find the stairs leading to the first floor had been blocked off by the flames. He was forced to jump from the window to make his escape.

Unfortunately, Kari was hesitant to leap to the ground.

“She wouldn’t jump,” James said Kari’s boyfriend told him. “He looked up and she was gone.”

The two men called 911 for help once they made it outside, KMOV reported. The family’s dog also died in the blaze.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office and by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, according to Missourinet. A GoFundMe has been set up for the family.

Westfield Girl Scout Creating ‘Sensory Garden’ Inspired by Cousin

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School junior Clara Christian is going for her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest achievement awarded by Scouts, to make the world a better place. Her project is “Veronica’s Garden,” a sensory garden for people with special needs located off Mountain Avenue within Mindowaskin Park.

The garden is inspired by Clara’s cousin, Veronica, who is 14 and has Down Syndrome.

On March 10, the Westfield Town Council approved the project, with support and guidance from Westfield Town Administrator Jim Gildea. It will take up approximately 2,500 square feet in total.

Clara needs about $2,000 more in donations by some time in October to finish the garden, said her mother this week. (If you’d like to learn more about Clara’s project or donate, see her website HERE.)

Help from the city and businesses

The public and private project has taken over a year and a half to plan.

The town repaved all the paths in Mindowaskin Park recently to provide easier access throughout the park.

Westfield town leaders have been instrumental and encouraging throughout the journey, her mother said.

And local business have donated service. Scape-Abilities owner Steve Costalos created the garden plan as a donation. Dreyer Farms in Cranford has been instrumental in selecting the plants and guiding Clara as she prepares for the build.

Town Engineer Kris McAloon was able to install a new water pit and electricity to prepare for the garden’s irrigation system that was installed by A. Priscoe Irrigation at cost.

The warm colors complement the rest of Hadid’s apartment decor, which can be seen in the Instagram post below that Hadid shared in July. She wrote at the time, “Spent all of last year designing and curating my passion project / dream spot. Of course it all came together right before quarantining out of the city…. but I’m excited for the time I’ll get to spend enjoying all the special corners that were made with a lil help from some of my favorite creatives (tap!) who embraced my ideas and didn’t call me crazy. 💛 ++ my mamma:) who is the greatest homemaking-sounding-board I could ask for (she called me crazy when required) ☺️ grateful to and for all.”

E! got details on how Hadid’s first days with her and Zayn Malik’s daughter have been in New York City. Hadid welcomed her daughter a week ago. “Gigi is on a high and can’t believe they created an angel,” E!’s source said. “She’s truly so in love and has had many emotional moments while holding her baby girl.”

The source added that Hadid’s mom Yolanda has been staying with the couple and helping them day and night. “She is planning on staying with them for a while and they all want to head back to the farm [in Pennsylvania] at some point,” the source said.

Several fathers subdued a registered sex offender outside a Cracker Barrel restaurant in North Carolina on Sunday after the man allegedly peeked under a teenage girl’s bathroom stall.

The incident happened at a Cracker Barrel in Charlotte, N.C., on Sunday morning, according to Duncan police Chief Carl Long.

A 15-year-old girl allegedly saw the suspect peek his head under her bathroom stall and reported it to her parents, police said. Staff found the man in the bathroom and kicked him out, they said.

Douglas Lane, 53, has been charged with voyeurism, as well as possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, according to Duncan Police Chief Carl Long.

Lane has several past convictions for similar behavior in both North and South Carolina dating back more than 20 years, court records show.

News outlets report that the incident occurred Sunday when the girl was using the bathroom and noticed a man looking out from under the stall beside her.

Lane tried to flee the scene after being confronted by the girl’s father but was stopped by a group of parents who were in town for a girls’ softball tournament, Long said. They tackled Lane in the parking lot and held him until police arrived.

A photo taken of Lane later in jail shows him with a bandage wrapped around his head and a bloodied nose.

During a bond hearing Monday, an attorney representing him claimed that Lane didn’t know he was in the women’s bathroom.

Burglar rumbled by girl, 6, who spotted alarming sign in garden

A girl, aged just six, urgently warned her mum of a burglar who was about to enter their property.

The brave daughter spoke out after Kelly Price climbed over the fence of her and her mum’s home.

Leicester Crown Court has heard how the little girl raised the alarm saying: “Mummy, there’s a lady in the back garden'”

The mum then confronted price in the doorway of her kitchen and escorted her off the premises, LeicestershireLive reports.

Price claimed she was being chased by a man, but sneakily helped herself to a mobile phone, which had been left charging on the kitchen counter of the home in Alma Street, Newfound Pool, Leicester, at 6.30pm on Wednesday July 29.

The victim’s husband rang his wife on the way home from work and ended up talking to Price, who answered the call.

She claimed she had just bought the handset and offered to re-sell it for £35.

The drama unfolded at Leicester Crown Court

Katrina Wilson, prosecuting, told Leicester Crown Court: “He took her up on the offer.”

They arranged to meet at the Lidl car park on Fosse Road North, in the city.

When the husband arrived, he took a photograph of the defendant.

Miss Wilson said: “There was an argument about ownership of the phone and he made a grab for it.”

She threw it under a parked van and her bag fell to the floor causing a bottle of alcohol inside to break – which the defendant then picked up and pointed it at him.”

She threatened: “If you come near me I’ll hurt you.’

“I know your wife and I know your home.”

The prosecutor said the defendant ran off leaving the man “shaken up”, but he recovered the phone.

Police then found Price nearby and arrested her.

When interviewed, the defendant, of Astill Drive, Mowmacre Hill, Leicester, insisted she had just bought the phone.

She told the officers “I’m not a dishonest person.”

Price has 79 offences on her criminal record, which were mostly thefts and burglaries, Miss Wilson said.

Sentencing, Judge Ebrahim Mooncey said: “You went to someone’s garden where there were children playing and one of them alerted her mother.

“You helped yourself to a phone from within the house, which makes it a burglary when occupants were present.

“No doubt the mother and children will remember it for a long time and feel they have to be careful in their own back garden

“Your behaviour towards the father, who wanted the phone back, is very concerning.”

James Varley, mitigating, said: “This isn’t a typical burglary and was clearly committed in desperation by putting her hand through a doorway to take something from the counter.

“She says she was being threatened by a man about a £20 debt.

“Happily, her relationship with him has broken
