Amy Sherman-Palladino Sends ‘Gilmore Girls’ Fans Wild With Her Home Decor at the Emmys

Amy Sherman-Palladino Sends ‘Gilmore Girls’ Fans Wild With Her Home Decor at the Emmys

Oy with the poodles! Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino took fans to Stars Hollow during the semi-virtual  72nd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday. Both were nominated this year for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but fans of the couple’s other hit show, Gilmore Girls, got excited after catching a glimpse into their home.

Before the winner was announced, host Jimmy Kimmel joked, “The key match-up to watch here is Amy Sherman-Palladino versus her husband, Dan. Will a marriage crumble before our eyes?”

The camera then cut to the Palladinos, who were seated together in front of their mantle at home amid the semi-virtual show. While many focused on the fact that Sherman-Palladino outdid herself in the hat department, others noticed the massive Dragonfly Inn sign hanging above the couple’s fireplace.

The Dragonfly Inn was featured in Gilmore Girls as the inn renovated and reopened by Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy) in season 4 of the show. It served as the setting for many of the show’s famous scenes through season 7 and into the show’s Netflix reboot, A Year in the Life

Here’s how Gilmore Girls fans reacted online.

Neither of the Palladinos took home the directing Emmy, but

Teacher Fights Ban on LGBTQ ‘Signage’ With Rainbow Classroom Decor

A Nevada teacher responded to her school district’s restrictions on LGBTQ “signage” by making a TikTok video that shows her classroom plastered with rainbow decor.

Jennifer Leja, whom BuzzFeed News identified as a teacher of middle school students in Reno, Nevada, posted a video on her TikTok last week showing off her rainbow posters, teacher’s desk, and duct tape separating student desks.

According to her TikTok video, the school said talking about LGBTQ issues would be considered “supporting a single political party.”

“And if anybody asks, I just really like rainbows, like, I just really like rainbows,” Leja says.

She takes the viewers on a tour of different parts of her classroom, including a pen stand flaunting rainbow feathers and a sign above her classroom door, decorated in rainbow colors.

“No politics in Ms. Leja’s classroom,” she says. “She just likes rainbows. Rainbows aren’t political, not at all, rainbows are just colorful.”

The video then lands on her wearing a face mask with a rainbow heart. She says, “What, this? This is not political, this is just that I really like rainbows.”

She told BuzzFeed News that students often come to her when they’re exploring their identities.

She has always kept a rainbow flag, but a new policy issued by the Washoe County School District bans political “signage” and “partisan political activities,” according to BuzzFeed News.

In an email reviewed by BuzzFeed News, banned “political activities” include signs supporting LGBTQ issues, Black Lives Matter, pro-life, and pro-gun campaigns. An official for the school district said, however, that teachers are still allowed to share their sexuality or talk about same-sex partners with students.

Leja’s video has garnered thousands of “hearts” and comments, with many pointing out that one’s ability to love or identify with their gender is not a matter of politics.

Prince Harry Just Gave Fans a Glimpse of His New Santa Barbara Home’s Stunning Decor

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan recently moved into a new home in Montecito, Santa Barbara, with their son, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. And throughout their relocating—as well as the pandemic—the Sussexes have continued their charity endeavors both in-person and remotely, regularly filming videos and partaking in calls to support important causes.

This week, Harry appeared in a video supporting the Trailwalker Relay, a 100-kilometer event taking place virtually this year, organized with the Gurkha Welfare Trust and Oxfam. Wearing a smart black shirt and debuting a sleek hairstyle, Harry thanked all involved with the event from his new home.

The video also gave fans a peek into the home’s decor. Featuring lush greenery outside a large window, a tall house plant, and a chic neutral-colored chair, the interior design seems to be as warm and inviting as the message of his video.

Addressing viewers, Harry said, “Almost five years ago, I traveled to Nepal to meet families and see firsthand how the country was rebuilding after the devastating 2015 earthquake. Buildings, temples, homes, and entire villages had been completely demolished. But it was clear that despite everything the Nepalese faced, their spirit and their resilience never weakened. There was a clear sense of care and compassion for each other.

“With COVID-19, the world is being pitted against a new challenge,” the duke continued. “One that is devastating and destructive in its own right, and I am heartened to see that, once again, the Nepalese spirit is unwavering. In Afghanistan, I was honored to serve alongside The Royal Gurkha Rifles. These soldiers showed me what they believe

Home decor became priority during COVID-19

Doha: The importance of home decor has increased as COVID-19 has forced more people to stay at home. A survey by Swedish furniture giant Ikea revealed that home decor became a priority with 47 percent people in Qatar focusing on this in the last three months and almost half 48 percent choosing to spend money on their home space rather than saving.

According to the research, almost half of the people in Qatar found themselves spending more time in a different room this year due to COVID-19, with 41 percent using their living rooms to work.

The furniture retail carried out independent research for the 70th edition of its new catalogue. Ikea’s new 2021 Catalogue, which was launched at a one-of-its-kind virtual event, is created as a handbook that feels like a friendly and optimistic problem-solver full of smart tips, hands-on ideas and small affordable shifts, rooted in real life at home.

It is a way of sharing knowledge and a point of view that a better home creates a better everyday life. The handbook is filled with “how-to’s” that show how creating a better home doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive or time-consuming.

Commenting on the launch, Regional Managing Director, Ikea, Vinod Jayan, said, “Now in its 70th year, the Ikea catalogue 2021 aims to inspire people to live healthier and more sustainable lives at home — this has never been as important as it is today. On the path to a better life at home, small steps make a big difference. An armchair, a rug, a potted plant or a lamp can change your mood, day and perspective.”

He continued, “We know that many people in Qatar have more limited budgets today. That’s why many of the solutions featured in this year’s catalogue are accessible for people with any budget and help them maximise their space and transform their favourite rooms.”

This year’s catalogue comes in both a print version as well as digital version that is optimised for different channels and platforms.

General Manager, Marketing and Communication, Carla Klumpenaar, said, “The Ikea catalogue 2021 is not just a catalogue — it is a collection of inspiration and knowledge of life at home for all Ikea online and offline channels, for digital and physical touchpoints. We are continuing to develop the global marketing channels and at the same time creating content locally to become even more market relevant with a selection of styles, situations, segments and stories.”

Ikea knows that people today want their personalities to be shown in their home. Since multi-function and creativity is key in order to enable both a small space living solution and an expressive design piece, Ikea turned to Greyhound Original. The result is a collection influenced by Asia, called SAMMANKOPPLA which means interconnect or unify. The collection is now out in the stores.

Autumn home decor trends: comforting hues, flexible design

In recent years, brown anything in a living space was considered by some arbiters of decor as drab and outdated. But this fall the hue is back in favor, in part because of the unsettled, anxious state of the world.

“Brown traditionally makes people feel comfortable and safe, and those are feelings that many of us are looking to our homes to provide,” says interior designer Dawn Hamilton of Oakland Park, Florida.

It’s just one of the trends in decor this season, when the pandemic has made home an even more essential space for living, working, studying and more. Also on the watch list: flexible rooms, indoor and out.

Cozy Palette

Hamilton says today’s brown palette is being used in new ways, as a neutral in all kinds of materials, and as an accent color.

“Brown feels very earthy and rich. It’s warm and inviting, and has the same grounding properties as black, although it’s not quite as harsh,” she says.

New York designer Becky Shea also cites brown’s organic versatility: “It’s a tone that works cohesively with neutrals as well as dark, bold tones like navy, graphite and black.”

Eilyn Jimenez of Sire Design in Miami is adding a mocha brown vanity to the guest bathroom of a “minimalist, French chateau-style” home she’s designing. “It adds a layer of depth with a vintage feel,” she says.

Don’t overdo brown, she warns, but blend it with modern materials like marble for beautiful juxtapositions.

“Bringing it in with light woods, leathers and other natural materials can help make a space feel timeless,” Jimenez says.

Melissa Morgan of M Interiors in San Antonio, Texas, thinks brown’s rebirth is “a reaction to years of very light, tonal interiors. Clients are looking for warmth and sanctuary in their homes more than ever.”

Lighter, yellowish browns, like caramel, often works well in leather.

“In upholstery, we consider saddle leather to be a form of brown that’s like a trusty pair of blue jeans — it goes with everything,” says Chicago designer Brynn Olson.

Soft browns and caramels are also appearing in pillows, lamps and drapes. Caning is on trend too, says Amy Leferink of Interior Impressions in Woodbury, Minnesota.

As for furniture, Olson likes the effect of brown stains on walnut and white oak, and says a beautifully stained built-in is timeless. “Natural walnut will always feel fresh, and we love to pair it with bright white decor such as plaster vases, for a sophisticated pairing of textures,” she says. That brown-and-white combo has been a favorite of decorating icons including Billy Baldwin, says New York City designer Glenn Gissler. Baldwin’s apartment in Manhattan featured a mix of glossy brown walls, white and chartreuse furniture, and brass accents. Inspired, Gissler recently painted a New York loft in a deep, rich brown, with columns and ceilings in crisp white. A long, tuxedo-style sofa in milk-chocolatey velvet anchors the space, along with tonal modern art.

Colors like purples and blues, of any intensity, also complement brown.
