With New York’s Carnegie Hall presenting works by Leonard Bernstein and the State of Israel celebrating its 60th anniversary, the timing was perfect to invite the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra to town. According to the New York Times review (which praises the music), the Orchestra played some of Bernstein’s more specifically Israeli works. Examples included Jubilee Games, composed for the IPO’s 50th anniversary in 1986. The Times makes clear, however, that these are serious musicians who play all their music well. Keep your ears open!
Bonus: The Washington Post carried a review of the IPO’s Washington, DC concert entitled “Gustavo Dudamel, Better Than the Hype.” You have to see it to believe the rave reviews (the in-house review here was spectacular)>
