Tel Aviv Marathon Celebrates City at 100
To celebrate the centennial of Tel Aviv, the city’s marathon is being run today for the first time in 15 years. Israel21C reports on the marathon route, which takes runners from the start (and finish) at Charles Clore Garden (near where the city was founded in 1909) past Independence Hall, northern Tel Aviv, and back along the Mediterranean Sea. For those who want to run shorter distances, there are also 10K and 5K options. Runners from around the world will be taking part in the race–and many Israelis too, of course. Haaretz reports on just a few of the participants, some of whom will be running for charity and some for the exercise. Either way, it’s a great way to see an amazing city, and we hope to see this event again next year for Tel Aviv at 101!
UPDATE: We just saw this coverage of the event by Haaretz (from which we got the above video), and which declares the marathon winner to be Daniel Konas, who finished in 2:38:06. Now that’s a fast tour of the city!
