About 100 of the best European RS:X class windsurfers converged on the beaches of Tel Aviv over the past week for the European Championships. Haaretz notes that the location was a pretty good one for the competitors; the city provides a nice contrast to the out-of-the-way beaches where contests are usually held.

Fans of Israel came out in the tens of thousands yesterday for the annual Salute to Israel Parade up New York City’s Fifth Avenue. The parade this year celebrated 100 years of Tel Aviv, and the city’s mayor, Ron Huldai, came in to join the festivities and marched at the head of the parade.

Thousands of revelers came out to Tel Aviv last night in celebration of the city’s annual “White Night.” This year’s event was extra-special given the city’s centennial this year and many of the events and exhibits highlighted this anniversary.

Even as Tel Aviv turns 100 this year, there are quite a few people born before the city and who have seen Tel Aviv grow into the metropolis it has become today. In fact, municipal records list 350 centenarians who live in Tel Aviv.

To celebrate the centennial of Tel Aviv, the city’s marathon is being run today for the first time in 15 years.
