Palestinians and Israelis Plant a Future Together
The following story is what the future should look like: Palestinians and Israelis working together to create a greener future.
The town of Rawabi is set to be the model for future Palestinian middle class real estate. As the first town in the West Bank to be built from scratch, Rawabi hired architects who put a lot of effort into sustainable planning, coinciding with the current green trend.
Last week, while we here in the U.S were enjoying turkey leftovers, Rawabi hosted a celebration of planting together with an unexpected partner–the Jewish National Fund (JNF), which is responsible for Israel’s forestry service.
On a cool autumn day, an Israeli truck carrying 3,000 tree seedlings made its way from northern Israel to Rawabi in order to present a gift to its new neighbor. With the help of the JNF’s agronomists and volunteers from the surrounding villages, Rawabi received its first green roots.
