Name Change Initiative Helps Israel Go Green [April Fools!]

In a bold attempt to raise money for Israel’s growing green technology infrastructure, the State of Israel has decided to sell the naming rights of the Dead Sea to the Ahava cosmetics company. While the full details of the Ahava agreement weren’t made public immediately, officials emphasized that the money from the deal would go towards strengthening Israel’s commitment to renewable energy, already among the most advanced in the world. Experts hailed the decision as an important step forward in repositioning Israel in the global clean-tech industry and in addressing the public’s desire for a more energy-efficient state.
The government had contemplated a broader licensing program, but ultimately agreed to use the Dead Sea as a pilot, after deeming its name a decided turn-off and in need of immediate change. It is widely believed that the lake, the deepest point on Earth, will be renamed the Ahava Sea, or the Sea of Love. If the initial stage is successful, officials suggest agreements could be hammered out for the Wailing Wall (seen as too sad) and the Old City of several towns such as Acco and Caesarea (out of keeping with the country’s modern character), among other sites.
A well-connected official extensively involved in the renaming decision was upbeat about the program’s prospects. “We have a golden opportunity to remake the face of Israel, help build our green energy capabilities, and help people to see Israel as a modern country despite our ancient origins,” he said. “What more could we ask for?”
