Multiple people were shot and seriously injured early Sunday near Rutgers University’s campus in New Brunwsick, police said.
Police said the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. at a Delafield Street house, when an unknown person shot people who were at the home. The injured people were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, police said.
The shooting occurred at an off-campus house party, according to abc7ny.com, which showed video of the scene with at least 30 evidence markers on the street outside the home.
It was unclear how many people were injured and whether any Rutgers students were involved. Residents are asked to avoid the area as the investigation is ongoing.
The Delafield home is located between Easton Avenue and Central Avenue, an area known for off-campus Rutgers student housing. Most Rutgers classes are online this semester.
Anyone with information is asked to call the New Brunswick Police Department’s detective bureau at 732-745-5217.
