Jew Da Maccabi
Here at isRealli we like to showcase new and upcoming Israeli musicians, so when we came across an article the other day in Ynet, we followed the links and put this post together.
Jew Da Maccabi recently immigrated to Israel with his family to further pursue his blossoming music career. He joins the ranks of the up and coming religious Jews making successful forays into popular music like reggae (Matisyahu) and hip-hop. We wish him the best of luck and success.
We grabbed some background info from his myspace for your reading pleasure:
Amnon Arama aka JewDa , Executive Producer of Kosher Productions, was born on June 20th, 1976, in Reshon Le Tzion, Israel. JewDa is the youngest of four children born into a family of musical prodigies. Albert Arama, JewDa’s father, was a famous trumpet player, who played in the Israeli Air Force orchestra as well as a member of the group, The Cabarets. At the age of ten months, JewDa’s family moved from Israel to New York City, the city of stars. When JewDa was twelve years old his family moved to Miami, Florida. Seeing JewDa’s passion for music, his father felt it important for JewDa to learn how to play a musical instrument. JewDa, who enjoyed watching his father play, decided to follow in his footsteps and learn the trumpet…
This was JewDa’s true beginning, because he was then able to manipulate music theory to bring about evolutionary styles of music. At fourteen, a Puerto Rican peer introduced him to the art of freestyle rap. JewDa was immediately inspired. This began his dream to work toward his passion of becoming the next big rapper. As JewDa paid his dues to the music industry, the ultimate respect from the urban culture was starting to flourish. Through JewDa’s maturity, he discovered another talent he had, the skill of producing. JewDa’s explorations led him to a long range of styles, such as hip-hop and reggae. Now producing his own beats, with a sharp musical ear and a deep passion, JewDa is one step closer to his dream of becoming a loved and respected rapper. With each day that passed JewDa added a new piece to his puzzle. Through JewDa’s learning, he discovered the essence of the Sabbath and their closeness with each other through and with G-D. As JewDa started to change into a righteous believer, he made a complete transformation of his image. The rawness of the street and the street lyrics were no longer his direction or his focus. JewDa made the decision on how to portray his new image and how he could give back to his community. And this is how Jewish Teens was born. Kosher Productions was born as a reflection and dream of its founders. The Organization / non for profit production label has come to life, consisting of traditional values, portraying Judaic mysticism and stories of the Torah. JewDa is currently working on a CD to compliment his vision of hip-hop based on Judaic life. Kosher Productions is branching off to further its roots in many foundations. One day the dream of one will be admired by the aspirations of others, which will be the true mark of success.

What the heck is this? quite a desecration of G-d’s name – I think! Try listening to real rap if you want it and Jewish music if you want it do not combine the two or at least not this way! It hurts my ears, eyes, and soul!

He’s good…but Matisyahu is better. What can I say. Have you seen what Matisyahu can do to a room?

It’s nice to see that love for and belief in Judaism can be found everywhere…including rap…who would have thought?!

Just viewed “Iron Like a Lion” and loved it. The video shows great beats and rhythms in solid rap tradition and gets across the inner message of strength and solidarity amongst true believers of Torah and Zion…..Both thumbs up!

To all the Jews who have nothing better to do than complain about hip Jewish music:
If it were not for Matisyahu I would possibly still have a shaved head and be chanting buddhist mantras for hours a day.
Rather than complain, let’s see you come up with a a more creative, more effective mode of youth education.
Come on now people, cheer up!
