The first-ever relay race in Israel, the Mountain to Valley Relay (website in Hebrew),  finished this morning, as runners pulled up to Timrat in the Galilee after their teams completed a 200-kilometer run from Nimrod’s Fortress in the Golan.  According to an article in Haaretz, the race was the brainchild of two friends from Timrat, Gidon Gal and Shmulik Ruchin who hit upon the idea while training for the 200-mile long Green Mountain Relay in Vermont.
For those who aren’t sure how the run/race works, here’s a short primer from the race website:  The course is divided into 24 segments.  You put together a team of 2,4 or 8 people who run the segments in order, handing off from one team member to the next.  The last team member to run hands off back to the first runner, and the order repeats until all the runners have finished. You can see a map of the race course on the race website.
This sounds like one amazing run; it’s simply a jaw-droppingly gorgeous area.  Kudos to everyone who participated!
