Israeli Filmmakers Take Prizes at Tribeca Festival
The Tribeca Film Festival may not be over, but some of the critics’ movie picks are in. And films by Israelis have taken some top billing. Yoav Shamir’s film “Defamation” (trailer above) explores the various meanings of antisemitism–both for those who are (or are not) antisemites and for Jews and Israelis. Needless to say, the movie does not present a straightforward answer. Another movie that gained critical acclaim and won in the “Best New York Documentary” category is “Partly Private,” by Danae Elon, in which the director and her husband take on the various arguments for and against circumcision. You can watch the trailer here (it’s a bit racy, so caution is warranted). You can see all the critics’ choices and their comments here.
