Israeli Duo Wins World Debate Championship
When their parents asked them to be quiet, they kept on talking. When their teachers asked for silence, these two had something witty to say. Today, all their talking has finally paid off.
Uri Merhav and Yoni Cohen-Idov were always known as big mouths, and last week they proved that they can talk their way out of almost anything. After beating teams from more than 30 universities across the world, the duo was crowned world debating champions.
In the championships, which were held in Istanbul, Turkey, the two were required to argue the following issues: granting prisoners the right to raise their children in jail, using advertisements that call for “curing homosexuality”, and publicizing the positive aspects of war criminals.
Debating has become a growing trend in Israeli schools and universities during the past decade. What started off as a domestic battle of wits soon went global and proved once again that Israelis have an opinion about almost everything.

Our warmest congratulations to these 2 champions that we had supported and coached in the past. We are very proud of the depth, ethics and sensitivity to the other with which they debate.
