For the first time ever, an Israeli film wins the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival. The film, “Lebanon”, by director and screenwriter Samuel Maoz, received the prestigious award this Saturday, September 12th.

This personal film takes place in June 1982, during the first day of the first Lebanon War. The occurrences are based on a true story of first time director Maoz.

Crucial amount of the film takes place inside an Israeli tank. The tank contains four young Israeli soldiers who are sent on a mission in Lebanon, finding themselves in a middle of war in a claustrophobic tank, while facing a genuine existential threat. The viewer is getting a very rare point of view of the four tank’s inhabitants.

“Lebanon” will be featured in the upcoming New York Film Festival on October 1st at 9:30 PM. For more information, check the New York Film Festival official site.

Stay tuned for an exclusive interview with Michael Moshonov, the Israeli actor who plays the tank driver in the film.
