Baby Israel is one of the first children of the Haiti aftermath, named after the country that helped his mother go through the critical stages of labor.

But Israel is not the only patient that IDF doctors rescued from the rubble. To date, 383 patients have been admitted to the Israeli hospital–140 of these required critical surgical procedures. While the hospital can accommodate as many as 500 patients, unfortunately the race to save trapped Haitians from the rubble is slowly coming to a halt.

In the last few days, army officials have decided that Israel will leave the medical team on the ground for the next month, until the second wave of health hazards abates. While all of these doctors and volunteers left their private practices behind they do not regret the chance to help Haiti rise back to her feet.
