Last night, under the wonderful clear, beginning-of-summer skies, a little over 400 people gathered by the East River for a special screening of “Sweet Mud”, an Israeli film by director Dror Shaul. Though the weather forecast gave us all a bit of a scare, armed with umbrellas and beach chairs, hipsters and father’s-day veterans joined Rooftop Films in partnership with the Consulate General of Israel in New York to mark the centennial anniversary of the Kibbutz movement in a special outdoors screening. The evening was dedicated to the magic of this unique Israeli social phenomenon. As the kibbutz is founded upon agriculture, with a concentration on nature, the event was green themed and took place at Solar One, the City’s first solar-powered “Green Energy, Arts, and Education Center,” and was powered solely by green energy. The night was a “kibbutz-like” gathering filled with Israeli food, music by the amazing TLV duo Hank and Cupcakes and of course film. For more photos visit our Facebook page.
