From TLV to BBC, Israeli Game Show Makes Waves
The number of times that Israeli cinema has raked in awards and Israeli TV shows have become franchised around the world is so frequent that some may say it isn’t considered news.
But what if the show itself is a game show about news?
This week, an Israeli screenwriter team managed to pitch and sell the show, “The Bubble” to BBC’s Channel 2 in the UK.
In the game show, three celebrities are locked up in a house for 3-4 days with no connection to the outside world. On their final day, they are brought to the studio and presented with questions regarding current events. The aim: to see if the contestants can distinguish news from fiction.
While the celebrities that participated in the Israeli version of the show likened the experience to a withdrawal from addictive substances, especially due to the lack of TV and internet, Jimmy Mulville (who will produce the show) told said: “Its originality, comic approach to current affairs and exploration of our culture’s obsession with staying in touch make it a unique and appealing game show.”
The new show will be produced in England by Hat Trick Productions, which has brought us cult classics such as “Whose Line is it Anyway” and “The Kumars.”
