For Earth Day, CNBC Highlights Israel’s Green Technology
Israeli technology will be featured on CNBC’s Earth Day special, “Beyond the Barrel: The Race to Fuel the Future,” which airs tonight at 8 PM EST. While this is the 40th year in which the world comes together for Earth Day, the planet is over 4 and a half billion years old, and there’s a lot of work to be done to ensure our home lives a long, healthy life.
It may come as a surprise to many to learn that a significant number of the most important green tech companies hail from Israel. Here’s some info on some of the Israeli companies that will be featured on tonight’s special program.
Zenith Solar has introduced revolutionary solar farm technology. While solar power has yet to take off due to the small yield (the average solar dish is able to retain only a quarter of the energy it captures), Zenith’s dishes hold 80%.
When most people think of wind farms, they picture large, open fields lined with rows of wind turbines capturing the crisp country air. Sovna is taking a different approach – propping turbines on top of skyscrapers, using wind generated by nature or even a passing helicopter to power buildings. The amount generated is often so high that it even feeds into the local power grid, powering areas with 100% clean energy.
Another Israeli company, Seambiotic has created a very smart way to improve performance of algae-based fuel while finding something to do with all those gross carbon dioxide emissions. Rather than pump waste into the atmosphere, Seambiotic’s technology uses the CO2 waste as a catalyst for growing algae pools for fuel use.
And this is only the beginning! To learn more about these companies and others leading the way forward in green tech, check out “Beyond the Barrel: The Race to Fuel the Future” airing tonight, April 22 on CNBC.
