Champion in Giving- Israeli Champ Hits the Street With Turkeys
At 10 AM the truck doors opened and more than 400 people started making their way to receive their Thanksgiving gift- a 20 pound turkey. More than 500 of these holiday birds were donated today, by the Israeli Consulate in NY and world boxing champion, Yuri Foreman, to families in need in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Canarsie.
The idea which came about after Foreman’s championship battle, is part of his way of saying thank you to the public who supported him this past year. “This is the season of giving and it is my duty to give back to the community after having such a successful year. Last week I received my title for the Israeli people; and today I’m giving these turkeys together with Israel’s official representatives.” Said Foreman.
In a homage to Sylvester Stallone in the movie Rocky, Foreman managed to squeeze in a boxing demonstarion using a turkey as a boxing bag, helping the poor animal deforst a bit faster. ” When Yuri said that he wanted to give back to the city, I could think of no better way then to go directly to the community. Since Thanksgiving is a time traditionally used to thank those around us, we decided to hand out turkeys to families in need – regardless of religious background.”
