This week’s New York Times Travel Magazine features a behind-the-scenes look at the world of art in Tel Aviv–not only who is creating what, but how. There are several sources of inspiration, from the political to the social movements that color Israel. Still others feel an attachment to the city’s atmosphere, which embraces new high-rises and the historic Bauhaus district. The growing recognition and acclaim that many artists, like Sigalit Landau and Yael Bartana, have achieved in the United States is a testament to the fact that the unique challenges posed by working in Israel (Tel Aviv in particular) are no obstacle to creating meaningful works that anyone can appreciate.
