The Israeli Antiquities Authority has revealed today, Just in time for Christmas, the remains of a house dated to Jesus Christ’s time in the city of Nazareth. The house was discovered by archeologists preforming rescue excavations by the church of the Annunciation in the center of town. The house is the first of its kind to be found in Nazareth and corroborates the historical evidence, according to which a Jewish village was located in site during the 1st century A.D.

“The entrance to the house was concealed by a wall dated to Mamluk times (around 15th century), but when we dug deeper we started finding  Roman period relics. The house contained a small amount of pottery that can be used to date the findings, moreover, lime receptacles that we found at the site point to the Jewish owners, since lime was a material that can’t be contaminated by non kosher food”. Said archeologist Yardena Alexander.

In the next few months archeologists will document the findings. In the future the house will be preserved as a part of a Christian center that will be built on the site.
