David Saranga

David Saranga is the Consul for Media and Public Affairs at the Consulate General in New York. He is responsible for maintaining direct contact with America’s New York-based national media, as well as overseeing all public relations initiatives as part of Israel’s branding strategy. Consul Saranga is became the first Israeli diplomat to implement new media methods (Web 2.0) in the field of public diplomacy. One of his main goals is to show the real face of Israel—that which lies beyond the news headlines.
Consul Saranga was born in Tel Aviv. Prior to joining the Consulate in New York, he served as Deputy Spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, and was responsible for contacts with the foreign media based in Israel. During this period, he handled Israel’s PR campaign on the International Court of Justice hearing in The Hague regarding the Israeli West Bank barrier, and coordinated Christopher Reeve’s visit to Israel in 2003. He also served in Israel’s embassies in Romania and Spain.
In addition to his diplomatic career, Consul Saranga has an extensive academic background. He earned his B.A. from Hebrew University in 1990, and received his MBA from Hebrew University’s Business School in 1993, specializing in Marketing and Business Entrepreneurship.
Consul Saranga served in the Israel Defense Forces as an officer in a Communications Corp. He attained the rank of Lieutenant.
