1. Name: Irit Koren
2. Born in Jerusalem
3. Moved to New York on June 15th, 2006, because I married an American guy.
4. I live in the Upper West Side. Lots of energy, lots of options, colors, movement. It’s like being in the beating heart of a person.
5. For a living … I have just finished my PhD in Gender Studies at Bar Ilan University and I am currently the director of Alma NY, a branch of the well known Alma College in Israel. It is a place that aims at providing an alternative Jewish space and voice for those who have not yet found a way to express or celebrate being Jewish and Israelis, as well as for those who seek to deepen their sense of connection with their roots.

6. In my spare time, I sculpt, tap dance, read lots of good books, have coffee with friends. I want to study Flamenco and I am still looking for a place to sculpt in clay here.
7. Favorite book: Meir Shalev’s “Keyamim Achadim”. Best love story I have read!

10. Favorite film: Lord of the Rings
11. Favorite hang out place in New York: Yuki Sushi, great food.
12. Favorite restaurant in New York: Motzart Cafe –great cakes and salads.
13. Favorite memory from Israel: Friday in Tel Aviv – meeting my friends in a coffee shop or just going to the beach on a hot day.
14. I wish: I would know what I what to be when I grow up…
15. I smile: when I have tickets to a good show, when I go to bed with my down blanket in the winter, when I have a good meal.
16. I get angry: when people are rude, proud, hypocrites, or just annoying
17. I do not forgive: If people apologize, I forgive them.
18. Once in a life time experience: Bungee jumping in New Zealand
19. Favorite travel destination: Traveling to South America with my friend after the army. Beautiful views and fascinating culture.
20. What I miss about Israel: So many things: the warm sun, my friends, the coffee, Dizengoff boutiques, the beach, Sabich from Fishman and the Pizza from Ben Yehudah, Habimah’s theater.
21. Two Israelis I admire: my friend Tamar – the most spiritual person I have ever met. Chanah Kehat – A woman with integrity who paid a personal price for her beliefs in women’s equality in the religious orthodox world.
22. What I love about New York: The lights during Christmas time.
23. Israel for me is………. My only Home. I hope to be back soon…
