In one of the most divided cities in the world, one Palestinian scientist opens the first Nanotechnology Research Laboratory in East Jerusalem, with the help of his mentor – an Israeli physicist at Hebrew University – whom he says gave him opportunities even when Arab institutions wouldn’t.
Dr. Mukhles Sowwan says his cutting-edge lab, which is working to find a new treatment for cancer in two to five years, wouldn’t have been possible without the help of his Israeli professor, Dr. Danny Porath. Together, they prove that science is a universal language.

Israel’s Maccabi Elite Tel Aviv faces off against the Knicks October 11th in an exhibition game at Madison Square Garden to benefit Migdal Ohr. Maccabi became the first international team to win on North American soil in 2005 when they defeated the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre.
The YouTube contest is open to participants throughout the world and comes to end September 30th. Participants are asked to submit 30 second videos to YouTube about ‘Israeli Sites & Faces’ and comment with a link to your video here on this post at the bottom of this page.
The videos will be judged by a committee at the Consulate and the selected videos will have a chance to be played at the game between the Knicks and Maccabi at the Garden. People attending the game will receive a score card to select their favorite video that may be screened during the game and the video with the highest audience vote will win a round trip flight from either Israel to NY or NY to Israel on behalf of the America Israel Friendship League.
Tickets for the exhibition game can be purchased at TicketMaster outlets, the Madison Square Garden Box Office and nyknicks.com.

This shouldn’t be too hard. Craig better watch his back because these girls aren’t just acting.
From YNET:
Hunt for Israeli Bond girl is on
Producers of the next Bond movie are coming to Israel to search for a dark-skinned beauty
Amir Kaminer, Yoav Birenberg
The producers of the next Bond film are now looking for the next Bond girl to star in the 22nd film in the series. This time around, their search has also brought them to Israel.
The lucky girl will star alongside Daniel Craig, the current 007.
Unfortunately, the character of the new girl in the script will not be Israeli but Spanish, yet according to the producers a dark-skinned Israeli girl could also fit the role.
The hunt for the right girl is spanning the entire Mediterranean basin, and producers of the series are now asking Israeli casting agents to send photographs and resumes of Israeli beauties with good acting skills. Another requirement is perfect command of the English language.

Multi-Cultural Israel: Jews from India
September 10, 2007 at 11:12 am | In Face to Face, Religion | Send to a friend | 2 Comments
Most people have no idea that Israel is one of the most diverse multi-cultural countries in the world. With Jews coming from 120 different nations, of multiple ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, and 20% of the population being Arab– a mix of Muslim, Christian, Druze, and others– Israel is a true melting pot. Here’s a little story to illustrate our point…
From Israel National News:
Bnei Menashe Immigrants Visit Kotel For the First Time
by IsraelNN Staff
(IsraelNN.com) The recent group of Bnei Menashe immigrants from northeastern India, who made Aliyah (immigrated to Israel) last week, paid an emotional first visit to the Kotel (Western Wall) in Jerusalem Thursday.
Singing the verse from Jeremiah 31, “And your sons shall return to their borders”, the group of 230 descendants of a Lost Tribe of Israel recited the daily afternoon and evening prayers in fluent Hebrew, with tears streaming down their cheeks.
The group was brought to Israel last week by the Jerusalem-based Shavei Israel organization, which assists “lost Jews” seeking to return to the Jewish people. Through its team of emissaries, Shavei Israel operates three Jewish educational centers in India for the Bnei Menashe, where they study Hebrew and Jewish tradition. All of the organization’s work is in accordance with Jewish law and is under the guidance and supervision of Israel’s Chief Rabbinate.
Once the immigrants had a chance to settle in, Shavei Israel organized buses to bring them to Jerusalem for a day of touring and sightseeing in the nation’s capital.
